Denise is in her 20th year of teaching early childhood music at the MSU Community Music School. Denise believes music making is part of what makes us human. Without music our lives are lessened, while active music making helps us learn, grow, emote, connect, and heal.
Denise is a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC), having completed both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Music Therapy at Michigan State. As a music therapist, Denise has worked with clinical programs at Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, and Eastern Michigan University, and currently holds a position with Harmony Garden Music Therapy Services in Jackson, MI working primarily in preschool and Great Start Readiness Preschool classrooms. In addition to her clinical and classroom work, Denise enjoys being a presenter at various schools and universities throughout the state, sharing information about music therapy and musically engaging diverse learners in the classroom.
Denise plays French horn with the Meridian Community Band, is an avid cyclist, and plays with a local trivia team.
