
The Choral Union is a large mixed chorus of 125 to 150 voices designed to bring the campus and community together.
Members include MSU students and individuals from the Greater Lansing area. Although previous choral singing is desirable, it is not required.
Repertoire focuses on the major choral/orchestral works of every stylistic period, which are performed with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and university orchestras.
The MSU Choral Union is created as a collaborative cultural collaboration between the university and the local community. Singers include community musicians from the Greater Lansing area, along with faculty, staff, and students. The repertoire focuses on major choral and orchestral works that represent both historical and contemporary music, performed with the University Symphony Orchestra and/or Lansing Symphony. Singers should have basic music reading skills and be able to sing their voice part independently.

Parking: The parking lot is behind the church off Harrison near Trowbridge. Parking is bountiful, and disabled parking spaces are available.

Tuition: Tuition is $90 per semester and covers instruction and musical scores. Financial assistance is available.

Vocal placement auditions for section assignment will be held on Wednesdays, September 3 and September 10, at 6 pm, at University United Methodist Church, 1120 S. Harrison Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823.
Please be prepared to sing the first verse of “America, the Beautiful.” Auditionees should plan to remain after their audition for rehearsal.

Choral Union is designed as a cooperative venture between the university and the local community. The repertoire is focused on the major choral/orchestral works of many stylistic periods. Students will develop basic musical skills (pitch accuracy, intonation, tone quality, sight-singing) and develop increased knowledge, a better understanding, and an enhanced appreciation of choral music through performances of the world’s greatest choral literature.
Singers have two options for concert apparel.
Option 1:
Black dressy shirt/top with cap sleeves or longer
Black, long dress pants (no leggings), or floor-length dress or skirt
Black socks or hose with closed-toe black shoes.
Option 2:
Black dress shirt
Black dress slacks
Black dress shoes and black dress socks
